Pura Vida

Life has been good here on the National Geographic Sea Lion. Currently positioning between Costa Rica and  Mexico [about 3 hours outside of Mexico]. Saw a killer whale yesterday off the cost of Nicaragua, a few sea turtles, and a bunch of dolphins.  We’ve been getting a lot of work done since we started positioning, which has been easy with the calm seas we have been experiencing thus far.

Got a lot of work done today as well.  Saw a few more sea turtles, and the highlight of the day would have to be flying fish! I haven’t ever seen flying fish before, but they certainly “fly” a lot further that I would have expected. Very surreal. We have has some shearwaters flying with us for at least the past few hours. They have been flying so close to the boat that sometimes it seems they are going to come through the railings.

Other than that things have been very quiet on the boat come evening time. Almost too quiet. I am currently living in the guest cabins due to the fact that my usual room is very turbulent even when we aren’t positioning. So all the stewards have been relocated to guest cabins for comfort and safety.

Seas are suppose to get rougher tonight, possibly 6 foot waves with up to 30 knot winds. The deck I am living on has been reinforced with paneling put over all the windows. It might be nice for rough seas, but it stinks some to be living in a room with a view… with the view covered up.
